Children's Emergency Department at CUH
The Children’s Emergency Department at CUH provides emergency care to sick children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are committed to offering the best care for acutely and critically ill and injured children from birth to their sixteenth birthday. Our department is staffed by consultants, doctors in specialist and general practice training, a nursing team, advanced nurse practitioners, allied health professionals and administrative staff; as well as housekeeping, catering and portering teams.
It has been designed to be a child-centred and family focused, audio-visually separate area, where children can be assessed in an age-appropriate environment.
The Children’s Emergency Department is affiliated with University College Cork and is an academic centre involved in teaching and research. We provide specialty training in paediatric emergency medicine to doctors and nurses.
Please note, as infectious illnesses are commonly present, visitor restrictions fluctuate for the hospital and the Emergency Department. We currently ask that only 1 parent attend with their child, however we will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
