Dr Jonathan Costello
MB, BCh, BAO, DCH, DTM, MBA, MRCPI, FRCEM
Upon completing graduation, Dr Costello pursued additional studies awarding him DCH, DTM, MRCPI. In 2001, he commenced his training in Emergency Medicine in Manchester UK, successfully completing his FRCEM in 2006. He subsequently entered a Fellowship programme (Paediatric Critical Care Response) at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. Prior to returning to the UK, he completed his Health Executive MBA.
He joined the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust in 2008 as Trauma Director and subsequently became Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine from 2013-2018. During this time, he received award recognition for Training & Education. He has held appointment to the UK Healthcare Regulatory body, The Care Quality Commission (CQC), as Specialist Advisor and has a keen interest in Regulation and Governance. He has received numerous awards as an undergraduate educator and is an examiner at both undergraduate (University College London) and postgraduate levels (Royal College [Membership & Fellowship]). He has over 30 indexed publications and external reviewer for the EMJ.
In 2022, he returned to Ireland to practice Emergency Medicine at Cork University Hospital and received National EM Trainer of the Year Award in the same year. In 2023 he was awarded PGDip in QI Leadership (Royal College of Physicians) which received both national recognition for work on Ambulance KPI compliance and shortlist commendation at National HSE Service Awards (Innovation). Significant interests include Service Innovation, Quality Improvement, Risk Management, Compliance / Regulation and Medico-Legal practice.
