CUH Adult Trauma Module – Thoracic Trauma

Learning Goals:

• Apply a structured CABCDE approach to patients with thoracic trauma 
• Recognise immediately life threatening thoracic injuries during the primary survey 
• Initiate emergency management in thoracic trauma (e.g. oxygen therapy, chest decompression)
• Interpret investigations (CXR, eFAST) in the context of the clinical presentation 
• Provide effective analgesia for chest wall injuries 
• Safely determine disposition (discharge vs. admission vs. ICU) for patients with thoracic trauma
• Recognise common pitfalls and missed injuries in thoracic trauma
